Evanescence

Fleeting airs, light

"  Evanescence  ”Is the name of the last exhibition of paintings by Dora vital which takes place at Vin, l'Art et vous in Ducos, from October 5 to October 19. Always towards more lightness, the artist gives us to see a minimalist and accomplished work, in a series of fabrics which question beyond the meaning.

     Dora Vital's work calls out through her attempt to pictorially write the invisible, the intangible. His art is characterized by its abstract scope which escapes any attempt to be inscribed in a precise meaning, in a determined form. The heart of his expression therefore appeals to the raw emotion of the observer.  : the canvases act like mirrors. The witness stands in front of canvases with open meaning  : all the mirages are born there, all the promises, all the hopes are allowed there  ; we project the emotion, the sensation that we want, that we can. We believe, here, to see movements of the wind, there crashing waves, other times "  Lights  »With indefinable contours (title of his previous exhibition at the Villa Chanteclerc), sometimes still, we see diaphanous sails, aerial views, and even flames.

  The graphic line is expressed in a  succinct and content. Silence is central to his work  : a blurred atmosphere unfolds, the paintings breathe and invite to travel, to freedom. However, the gesture is carried out sparingly. He is  precise lightness  : we seem as if transported in cosmic lands, dizziness of cotton, clouds… Fleeting and fleeting impressions, sophisticated airs.

  What is grasped, ultimately, is what is, through time, but also what changes and vanishes in nature. It is the subtle movement of life, but it is also the door to the untouchable, the Incognoscible.

  "  Evanescence  Is a story of moments captured in their fragility. The perceptions evoked, the feelings suggested follow one another, but are not alike. We are faced with an impressionism which is reminiscent of Lyrical Abstraction, the informal art of Zao Wou Ki.

  Sometimes the canvases emerge a form of delicacy, a softness, a lightness. On other occasions we discern a form of almost telluric bubbling, like waves smashed by rocks. It is always, in any case, the passage from one state to another, the instant of a transition in moving time.

The thing, the real, are like hidden away  : passed from the solid state to the gaseous state  ; disappeared, rendered invisible. It is this precise moment of suspension that is the subject of this quest for the unattainable in this work.

"  Evanescence  », Presents many almost monochrome. They are like the most ethereal expression of the subtle body. The execution of the work is meticulous and detailed. Dora  Vital permeates the subconscious surreptitiously, with a certain finesse. The color becomes a magical space where the artist escapes. Through reds, greens, blues, pinks and ocher, she masters chance through a relentless pictorial quest. The artist tends towards the most evanescent possible, towards the most precise gesture. The artist's touch sometimes recalls that of Soulage, in the almost ritualistic practice of monochrome, in the refinement of what is invoked.

Excess in the measure?

Dora Vital does not refer to the classical landscape, but paints a place emancipated from any figure, inhabited by the free and expressive outpouring of the artist. Seizing the moment in her creative movement is for her the means of bringing out a singular landscape. 


Dora gives us to see expanses, almost deserted, swept by often violent winds, in cloudy, luminous and oblique corridors which let emerge summits, fuzzy shores and magmatic rocks. We are at the moment of the emergence of creation, in an original chaos in the process of being organized, according to an ascent by diagonal stages. 


On canvas or wood supports, on large and small formats, with mixed techniques of which she has the secret, Dora Vital, by her gestures and traces, create soft and intense natural harmonies. She proceeds by successive recoveries of materials and colors in a game of chance and control of effects.  The large clear traces partially erase the underneath and ensure the appearance of forms. Gold discreetly enamels the edges with a precious and sacred note. On the surface, shiny and transparent materials intensify the light of the colors. 


No creatures, no fauna, no flora, the landscapes thus deserted from any narration, are organized with the only play of the four elements which traditionally constitute Far Eastern painting. In often vertical formats, the pictorial space, energized by the alternation of earth-fire and air-water couples, shows the circulation of winds around rocks, caves, even in the flight of the sky. Their way of merging, the void marrying the full, create through transubstantiations, unique atmospheres that touch our aesthetic and metaphysical senses. The landscape of Dora is that of a pre-history which reminds us of the permanent transformation of the creative forces of nature.


In essence, nature is limitless and opposes the real landscape chosen by the artist to paint a picture. Couldn't we say, that Dora fits here, nature more than the landscape, an excess in the measure? In search of virgin territories, dark caves with an infinite sky, she leaves the ordinary decor off-screen. Each painting produces a fragment that is valid for the whole of his work: the same view which varies according to his moods. The non-representation of the body makes it both inaccessible and omnipresent, thus achieving an 'outside inside', the artist asserting herself as nature. 
In the poetic moment, Dora Vital freely and coherently constructs an abstract painting, offered to the enjoyment of vision, where immanence and transcendence intersect. The contemporary interferes in the feeling of limitlessness which is expressed in his landscapes without horizon, open on an elsewhere
